WHAT and HOW each of us have learned through this process ?

The Failure in Finding the Right Design Solution

When we going to print out the wall stickers, we found out that is only A3 size stickers available in printing shop.
Then we try to print in out in different sizes to test the effect of size of stickers.

The Struggles that We Have Faced

We were feeling quite struggles when we found out the idea of urban gardening was not suitable for this project.
All of the group members are from different hostels and everyone is busy for our own activities and event.

The Teamwork Communication Breakdown

We definitely had arguments as all of us have different opinions and idea.
However, we tried to tolerate and understanding each others.
Finally, we came up with a successful outcome.

The Management of The Team

See Enn good in planning and managing throughout the whole process of our project. She always reminds us when there is any procrastination occurred.
Xin Nin helps a lot by giving us the ideas and suggestions when we are doing the prototype and mock up.
Michelle and me did our parts as well by designing for the poster, logo, stickers and name card.

The Testing Process and The Choice of Prototype

We have tried to paste the stickers on different types of walls and we chose the orange colour which is almost the same with the research area that we spotted to use as the background of prototype.

The Turning Point of The Project

At first, our idea is urban gardening.
After we found out the idea couldn’t work ( because there is no people to help us take care of the plants ), we change our idea to redecorate the spotted area with stickers and wind chimes.

The Most Memorable Moments in This Project

From preparation for prototype, testing to exhibition.
First try of using machine to make wood punching
Doing the wind chimes together with group members, full of joys and laughs.
Enjoy the moments while doing prototype at home and my mom is my best helper and photographer ever!

Set up for the exhibition, learnt a lot of things from other groups
Thanks to my group members for willing to sacrifice and give their commitments, all the time we spent together will be the most memorable moments for me.

What Is Fun About This Project and Most Importantly

Happiness Project is not like other indoor lecture class that make us feel boring instead we have chance to go around and have fun at Georgetown.
We get to understand more about the design process. Design is not merely expressing the idea and concept, we have to test it whether it is practical or not and do the mock up for it.
It is fun and exciting set up for the exhibition and it is like showing off our new born baby.

The Reason We Think Our Project Can Give Happiness to Georgetown

Wind chime will produce nice sound and it can relax our mind when we chilling at the research area.
The wall stickers will bring happiness especially for the kids as it makes the wall looks fun and joyful. It will brings the kids to their imagination world too.

Episode 6 - To Produce Mock Up and Prototype

First Part

8/5/2014 (Tuesday)

Again, we produced the mock up together.

Xin Nin folded the wire to create the framework of the building, and sprayed white colour on it.

On the other hand, See Enn was responsible to double check the finished stickers and print it out after that.

Michelle was busy to design our name card and I would do the mini sample of the wind chime.

Second Part

I cut out the stickers and stamped on the wall to produce prototype.

Michelle hanged the windbell to  test and see how it looked like.

In the night, See Enn and Xin Nin were busy preparing the presentation on Friday.

Thank you all for the hard works!

Third Part

This are the finished products we produced that day.

Episode 5 - Finishing the Wind Chime together ❤

     6/5/2014 (Tuesday)

All of us meet each other at Pusat Seni to produce the windbells together. Michelle and Xin Nin were responsible for putting string on the tin, while See Enn and I tied the white wooden chips with tins. Lastly, add a small bell on the tins.

Tada~!! Our wind chimes have been completed! =D

Episode 4 - Wind Chime ( Process)

We have limited budget, to reduce the cost, we decided to use aluminium tin, wooden board and bell to produce the wind chime.

Sketches for wind chime

My job is to prepare colourful tins with holes on them. Firstly, cut the tin into halves.

Further, use a pair of scissors to trim the uneven surface.

Next, use a hammer to drive a nail into the tin, to create a hole on it.

Lastly, spray the tin with sky blue colour.

     Finished !!

Episode 3 - Sticker Drawing Process (Little Cloud)

My mission is to draw the cloud stickers which would later be put on the wall. I have searched different information and pictures as reference, so that I could have some ideas how to draw an interesting and enlightening cloud. The cloud could enlighten the wall, make it looks lively.

I started drawing after carefully looking through the pictures of the clouds. This is the process of how i draw the sticker.

 The sticker has been completed.

Episode 2 - (Urban Gardening) -->( Fly Your Dreams)

We found some problems when we were trying to produce prototype and mock up of our idea. To do urban gardening, we need a long time to cultivate the plants, and we do not have time to wait it grows nor take care of the plants.

After a short discussion with Dr Nurul, we decided  to change our idea to wishing lane (fly your dreams). These idea is to redecorate the abandoned street/alley with stickers and windbells to inject some new life into the alley. People could go to the alley, write their wishes on the white board of the windbells, to let the wind bring their wishes far away.

This is the abandoned street that we spotted at George Town and we will decorate it with cute stickers and wind chimes, making this street looks more fun and joyful. Wind chime will produce nice sounds which can make peoples feeling relax and comfortable.

Episode 1 (1st Idea & Concept of Our Project)

Initially, our group was comprised of 8 persons, which was 4 juniors and 4 seniors.  We also decided to give out 2 ideas to apply in our happiness project. However, with Dr Nurul's advice, we finally decided to divide our group into 2 sub-units, so that we could do our best with 2 different ideas.

Michelle, See En, Xin Nin and I have reached a consensus after the discussion. We have again decided to make up another group without seniors, and our idea is urban gardening

This are the sketches and mind maps we produced that day.

Penang Peranakan Museum

Penang Peranakan Mansion, the typical home of a rich Baba of a century ago is recreated to offer a glimpse of their opulent lifestyle and of their many customs and traditions. Built at the end of the 19th century by one of local history’s famous personalities, the ‘Hai Kee Chan’ or Sea Remembrance Store had once served as the residence and office of Kapitan Cina Chung Keng Kwee.
The exterior of the Peranakan museum , the wall was painted in green colour and the grilles are golden in colour.

A lot of drama taken in this big and luxurious house . Include the Singapore famous drama that I love ,"Little Nyonya" .

This is their tea time room .

The staircase in the museum , luxurious right ?

The TV room with the antique TV and a Nyonya ancestor picture beside it .
The antique pot , the peranakan people call it "KamCheng" . I like the pattern design of the pot . Look nice !

The Patio in the house .

The room infront of the dinning room ,  the people will sit at here after dine and chit chat .
Ceki Table . The nyonya play this games as their hobby and pass their time because the nyonya cannot go out from home easily and need to stay in house .

I visited this museum because I like Peranakan Culture . I cant imagine the life of rich Peranakan family that live in this house . Its very luxurious !
I experience a lot of things with this trip ! Love it !
